Citizens Police Academy
|
The Rowlett Police Department Citizens Police Academy is an eleven week course (one night per week) that is designed to help the citizen better understand what a police officer encounters while on duty.
Each week you will have a qualified police instructor explain how each section of the Rowlett Police Department operates. You will learn about the Patrol division and how and when the SWAT Team is called out. The Crime Scene unit will explain how physical evidence is collected at a crime scene. The Criminal Investigations division will discuss case investigations from thefts to homicide. You'll learn about the Traffic division, the Crisis Negotiation Team, Detention, the Communications division, the Records Section and more. There is an evening at our shooting range with hands-on instruction in the use of police firearms, and a driving course where students drive police squad cars.
We will also arrange for you to ride along with an officer on patrol.
When you graduate you will receive a Certificate of Achievement showing you have completed the Citizens Police Academy training. The Rowlett Police Department's Citizens Police Academy held its first graduation exercises in the Spring of 1998 and has been held twice yearly since inception. Over 250 citizens have participated.
