General Information

  • Science for Families
    Science for families is a directory of science resources. Use the sections list on the left side of the screen to find related web sites by topic, or browse the collections of books, articles, and product reviews.
  • The Exploratorium
    The web site component of the Exploratorium museum, provides access to more than 15,000 web pages, including sound and video files, covering a wide range of science topics. This site also provides instruction for more than 500 simple science experiments.
  • Franklin Institute Online
    The Franklin Institute web site is divided into three sections: Learn, Visit, and Explore. The Learn section includes teacher resources, online exhibits, learning resources, and study units. The Visit section offers information about the Institute, tickets, special events, and the museum store. The Explore section provides access to online collections and exhibit halls, resources, and the history of the institute.
  • How Stuff Works
    With in the Science Stuff section of the How Stuff Works web site, users will find categories for Earth Science, Engineering, Life Science, Military, Physical Science, Space, and the Super Natural. Select from the topics provided, or click on the “more” links for each category to find additional topics.
  • NASA
    The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) web site includes news, information, and multimedia features about NASA missions, life on earth, humans in space, exploring the universe, and more. This site is also organized in to sections for the following user groups: Kids, Students, Educators, and the Media & Press.
  • National Science Foundation
    Visit the National Science Foundation (NSF) web site to find news, information, and deadlines for the NSF and its programs, grants/funding, and publications. Specialized information for students and teachers and directories for NSF staff and organizations are also available.
  • MadSci Network
    Based at the Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, this web site offers science archives that can be browsed by topic and grade level, a search engine, online resources, an Ask-A-Scientist service, a random knowledge generator, and MAD Labs (experiments).
  • Science Made Simple
    Created for children, the Science Made Simple web site provides simplified information to answer children’s questions about science, together with science news, measurement conversions, and fun ideas for science projects and experiments. Complete access to the site requires a fee-based subscription.
  • DiscoverySchool.com
    DiscoverySchool.com provides homework resources, a science fair guide, and games for students, together with lesson plans and teaching materials for educations. A guide to the educational programming available from Discovery’s family of networks is also available.

Online Magazines

  • American Scientist
    This web site is the online service of the magazine of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society. American Scientist Online includes the full content of the print magazine, archives, and online features. Full access to the site is provided to Sigma Xi members and American Scientist subscribers.
  • Discover Magazine
    The Discover Magazine web site includes access to the current issue, online exclusives, archives, a discussion forum, subscription information, and monthly lessons and projects for teachers. Some components of this site require a fee-based subscription.
  • New Scientist
    Visit NewScientist.com to find science related daily news articles, selected articles from the print edition, subject guides organized by topic, book reviews, interviews, and a database of science and technology jobs. The archives section is available only to subscribers of the print edition.
  • Popular Science
    The Popular Science web site provides features and news for the following categories: science, Internet, medicine and biotechnology, computers and consumer electronics, aviation and space, home technology, and automotives. Listed under the resources tab newsletters, contact and subscription information, an online store, and forums are also available.

Science Experiments and Fairs

  • Adventures of Science Bob
    The Adventures of Science Bob web site offers instructions for simple science experiments for kids. Select an experiment from the drop-down menu or click on the link below it to see the complete list.
  • Experiments Archive
    The Experiments Archive, part of the MadSci Library web site, provides instructions, age-level, and safety-measures for science experiments. The experiments included are organized into the branches of science they demonstrate.
  • Internet Public Library: Science Fair Project Resource Guide
    The Science Fair Resource Guide walks students through the steps of creating a science fair project. Information or links to additional information is provided concerning choosing a topic, finding resources, creating a display, writing a paper, and preparing for a presentation.
  • Reeko's Mad Scientist Lab
    Visit Reeko’s Mad Scientist Lab to find free science experiments, games, and more for children, parents, and teachers. The experiments are labeled easy, intermediate and advanced.
  • Ultimate Science Fair Resource
    At SciFair.org students can look for project ideas in the idea bank or idea exchange, read through the project steps and hints, learn more about writing a report and creating a display board, or send in e-mail questions about their projects.
  • WWW Virtual Library: Science Fairs
    The World-Wide Web Virtual Library Science Fairs collection includes links to international, national, state, regional, local, and virtual science fairs. To find Texas or Dallas area science fairs look for “TX” under the Regional and State categories.

Local Museums

  • Dallas Museum of Natural History
    Visit the Dallas Museum of National History web site to find information about the museum’s history, hours and admissions, volunteer opportunities, exhibits and collections, programs and events, museum membership, and science news. A teacher’s guide, newsletter, and additional features are also provided.
  • Dallas World Aquarium
    The Dallas World Aquarium provides information about the aquarium, rainforest exhibit, South Africa exhibit, conservation, hours, admission, and membership, together with live video images from selected exhibits.
  • Dallas Zoo
    Through the Dallas Zoo web site users will find general information (hours, admission, parking, etc.), news and events, featured exhibits, online animal support program, conservation and research projects, education resources, volunteer information, and more.
  • Fort Worth Zoo
    The Fort Worth Zoo web site includes visitor and special events information, exhibit descriptions, a special section for children, zoo news, education resources, conservation highlights, and membership and adoption programs.
  • Museum of Nature and Science
    The Museum of Nature and Science web site allows users to find information about the museum, check the calendar of events, purchase memberships, access education resources, read about new and upcoming exhibits, or buy tickets online for the exhibits, IMAX, or planetarium.
  • Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
    FWMuseum.org provides support for educators together with membership, ticket, and exhibit information.

National Museums

  • National Museum of Natural History
    The web site for the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History includes an information desk (hours, admissions, tours, etc.), calendar of events, descriptions of selected exhibits, a collection of online educational resources, a museum directory, and a guide to the research and collections of the museum.
  • Smithsonian Institute
    Visit the Smithsonian web site to find online resources created by the Smithsonian Institute, to access the web site of a Smithsonian museum or gallery, to read descriptions of new or upcoming exhibitions, or to look up visitor information. Additional portions of the web site have been created for the use of teachers and children.
