    About.com provides this index of history information.   • Internet History Sourcebooks Project
    The Internet History Sourcebooks Project (IHSP) makes available online collections of public domain and copy-permitted historical texts. Topics covered include Ancient, Medieval, and Modern historical texts.
  • World Wide Web Virtual Library: History Index
    The History Index contains an extensive collection of links to information for many different areas of History. Locate resources by browsing links by country or region, time period, or historical topic. Links to professional research and methods resources are also provided.
  • Internet Public Library: History
    The Internet Public Library collection of History web sites is organized by region, era, topic, and resource type. The collection includes links to constitutions from around the world, museum web sites, and several university research projects.
  • History.com
    History.com, part of the A&E Television Network, not only provides television scheduling information, but also the This Day in History feature, audio and video clips of 20th century speeches, discussion boards, educational study guides and newsletters for teachers, travel topics, weekly quizzes and an online store.
  • HyperHistory Online
    The topics included in Hyper History cover 3,000 years of world history, in an easy to use and simple to understand format. Those topics are divided into the following four categories: People, History, Events, and Maps. Additional color-coding identifies subjects, such as technology, art, religion, and politics, with in the main category timelines.
  • World History Compass
    The World History Compass is an online index to World History web sites from around the globe. The index is organized chronologically, geographically, and topically, but also includes a search option. In addition to web sites, links to World History related news and articles are also provided.
  • Infoplease: World History
    The Info Please website offers a very generalized look at World history. This site provides briefly annotated timelines for Ancient History, World History 1-999 A.D, World History 1000-2001 A.D., and a list of Millennium milestones.
  • Ancient Egypt
    The Ancient Egypt section of History Link 101 is an index to web sites with information about Ancient Egyptian daily life, art, pictures, biographies, research, maps, and religion.
  • Ancient Greece
    AncientGreece.com provides short descriptions of and links to additional information about the following Ancient Greece related topics: art and architecture, geography, history, mythology, Olympics, and wars.
  • Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors
    Use the Online Encyclopedia of Roman Emperors to find alphabetical and chronological lists of Roman Emperors, the family trees of important imperial dynasties, indexes to Imperial Roman Battles, ancient and medieval maps of the Roman Empire, and a catalog of Roman coins.
  • World War I
    Organized by KCET/Los Angeles and the BBC in association with the Imperial War Museum of London, this site offers interviews, an interactive timeline, maps and photographs, related readings, and search capabilities all focusing on the history and effects of the Great War.
  • World War II
    Created by Grolier Online to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, this site offers articles, biographies, mini-documentaries, a test, and links to more World War II information online.
  • Broer Map Library: Online Historic Maps
    Here you will find a collection of thousands of historic maps from around the world including foreign language atlases and road atlases from many eras.  Maps are organized by region.

United States

  • History and Politics Out Loud
    History and Politics Out Loud is a collaborative project funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities together with Michigan State University and the National Gallery of the Spoken Word. The files include public speeches as well as private presidential telephone conversations. Each files gives the title, speaker, date delivered, place, subjects, transcript, description, and references.
  • USHistory.org
    Created by the Independence Hall Association, USHistory.org includes information, pictures, timelines, and links for several historic sites and persons from the American Revolution.
  • America's Story by the Library of Congress
    Developed for children by the Library of Congress, the America’s Story web site has interesting stories and features that will appeal to adults as well as children. Included in this site are biographies, timelines, social and popular history, state history, games, and more.
  • A Biography of America
    A Biography of America provides a list of chronological lessons on American history. Each lesson includes a transcript of a corresponding video program, key events, an interactive time-line, map, or photograph, and a list of related online primary and secondary source materials.
  • An Outline of American History
    This site was produced by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Information Programs. An Outline of American History is divided chronologically into 13 chapters; each chapter is then divided topically.
  • U.S. Historical Documents
    The University of Oklahoma College of Law presents this chronology of U.S. Historical Documents. Select from the list of dates to find a document or browse down the list by century. Also available are images of national and historical flags, current state flags, and the current flags of U.S. districts, territories, and possessions.
  • United States History Index
    The World Wide Web Virtual Library History index offers links to research tools and associations, as well as history web sites organized by topics and chronological periods.
  • Twentieth Century Cultural History
    Created by Reference Librarians at Kingwood College Library, this web site provides a series of web guides for the decades of the Twentieth Century. For each decade the guides include facts, a short description, related resources, and information from the following categories: art, literature, fashion and fads, music, sports, education, technology, persons and personalities, theater and film, or radio.

  • Handbook of Texas Online
    Sponsored by the Texas State Historical Association and the UT Austin Libraries, the Handbook of Texas Online offers an abundance of information about Texas history, culture and geography. Encyclopedia articles can be searched by keyword or browsed alphabetically by title, who, what, when, and where lists.
  • Lone Star Junction
    The Lone Star Junction is a resource for early Texas history. Included within this site are archives, forums, full-text books about Texas and the Southwest, book reviews, a database of over 10,000 Texans that lived during the time of the Republic of Texas, and links to other web sites of interest.
  • History of Dallas
    The Dallas Historical Society provides this simple overview of the history of Dallas. A virtual tour of downtown Dallas, a timeline of Dallas history, and special topics and exhibits from Dallas and Texas history are also included on this web site.
