- Administration on Aging
An agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Administration on Aging (AoA) web site includes sections about the AoA, news, information and resources for senior citizens, information for professionals, and grants. Each section offers links to additional resources and is available in eight languages.
- AMA Online Doctor Finder (American Medical Association)
Use this AMA web site to find basic professional information for nearly every licensed physician in the United States or to find expanded information, such as office hours, philosophy and achievements, of AMA members. Physicians can be searched either by name or by medical specialty and location.
- Anatomy of the Human Body
The reference collection of Bartleby.com offers access to the full-text of the 20th edition of Henry Gray’s Anatomy of the Human Body, complete with the bibliographic record, table of contents, preface, text, illustrations, and subject index.
- Columbia University Home Medical Guide
The Columbia University College pf Physicians and Surgeons makes available this online Complete Home Medical Guide. The guide is broken up into six parts and users can either select a part or select from the list of chapters. The phone number for a physician referral line is also provided.
- Emergencies and First Aid Guide
The web site for the Harvard Medical School Family Health Guide offers the following medical emergency information: Emergency Checklist, Mouth-to-Mouth Resuscitation, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Medical I.D. Tags, A Well-Stocked First-Aid Kit, Emergency Phone Numbers, and the Top Ten First-Aid and Emergency Care Procedures. Also provided is the information on ordering the complete family health guidebook.
- Healthfinder
The Healthfinder web site was developed by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and other federal agencies. Its purpose is to provide access to the best government and nonprofit health and human services information on the Internet.
- History of Medicine
The web site of the History of Medicine, a division of the National Library of Medicine (NLM), is a resource for online health information and research. This site also provides general information about the NLM and its exhibitions, collections, and services.
- Kids Health
Created by The Nemours Foundation’s Center for Children’s Health Media, Kids Health provides doctor-approved health information about children from before birth through adolescence. The site has separate areas for kids, teens, and parents in both English and Spanish languages.
- Mayo Clinic
Produced by medical experts, MayoClinic.com provides information about diseases and conditions, staying healthy, food and nutrition (which includes healthy recipes), and prescription and over-the-counter drugs. Also available are tools for determining treatments, self-assessment tests, and disease risk calculators.
- MEDLINEplus
Provided by the U.S. National Library of Medicine and the National Institutes of Health, MEDLINEplus offers information about more than 600 diseases and conditions, lists of hospitals and physicians, extensive information about drugs and clinical trials, and several health reference resources. This site is also available in Spanish.
- Mental Health
The Internet Mental Health web site is a free online collection of mental health information, compiled by Dr. Phillip Long, a Canadian psychiatrist. This site contains articles, links, information about disorders and medications, and discussion lists, as well as a mental health index and glossary.
- National Library of Medicine
The U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) web site provides access to numerous health information resources; a variety of library services, catalogs, and databases; current research programs; extensive new articles, announcements and press releases; and general information about the NLM.
- National Women's Health Information Center
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Women’s Health Information Center provides free health information for women. Use this web site to search the database of health topics, browse special sections and articles, locate the center’s toll free hotline number, or to find additional women’s health resources.
- Nutrition
Nutrition.gov provides access to a variety of topical information, including food facts, food safety, lifestyle issues, health management, food assistance, and nutrition research. Also available are links to a number of valuable nutrition and health resources and tools.
- WebMD
Access the WebMD health web site to find health and wellness news, support communities, newsletters, interactive health management tools, information about drugs and herbs, or locate a doctor by state.
- Weight Management and Control
This site is made available by the U.S. National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases of the National Institutes of Health. MedTerms.com is the online medical dictionary for MedincineNet.com. MedTerms.com definitions can be found by searching for a term or browsing the alphabetical listings. Recently added terms appear on the home page.
- MEDLINEplus
The MEDLINEplus medical dictionary is provided by Merriam Webster. To search, enter a term or the first few letters followed by an asterisk (*). Use the MEDLINEplus online encyclopedia to find over 4,000 articles about diseases, tests, symptoms, injuries, and surgeries.
- Online Medical Dictionary
