  • The White House
    At Whitehouse.gov find current and historical information about the office of President, Vice-President, and First Lady, the Executive, Judicial, and Legislative branches, together with White house news, position appointments, speeches, photos and video clips. This information is also available in a kid-friendly format from White House Kids.
  • Office of Management and Budget
    The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) web site provides general information about the OMB, as well as information and news about the President’s Budget, Federal Management, the economy, and charts on the updated budget and fiscal situation.
  • United States Trade Representative
    Use the web site of the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) to find news, federal reports and resources about the following categories: the office’s role and history, the World Trade Organization, trade information by region or sector, trade and the environment, outreach services, trade and development, and the monitoring and enforcement of U.S. Trade Law.
  • Dept. of Agriculture
    The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) web site provides information about the agencies, services, and programs of the USDA. Use this site to find USDA press releases, publications, and reports, as well as the USDA e-mail and telephone directories.
  • Dept. of Commerce
    Access the U.S. Department of Commerce to find information about economic growth, free nation, international outreach, innovation, and stewardship. This site also offers information about Dept. of Commerce staff office and directors, press releases, a directory of e-mail address and phone numbers, and a search for local commerce offices and services.
  • Dept. of Defense
    The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) web site includes an overview of the DoD, its history and headquarters, information about the War on Terrorism, news and press releases, and an alphabetical list of DoD web sites, including web sties about the defense agencies, military recruiting, and homeland security among others.
  • Dept. of Education
    The U.S. Department of Education web site provides news and information about the department and its offices, programs, policies, research and statistics, grants, and financial aid. The site also contains individual section dedicated to the needs of each of the following groups: students, parents, teachers, and administrators.
  • Dept. of Energy
    Use the U.S. Department of Energy web site to locate general information about the department and its staff offices, mission, history, organization and budget. Also available are news articles and information resources about national security, energy sources, energy efficiency and prices, the environment and science and technology.
  • Dept. of Health & Human Services
    The U.S. Department of Health & Human Services web site offers sections dedicated to the department, diseases & conditions, families & children, safety & wellness, aging, drugs & foods, specific populations, disasters & emergencies, resource locators, grants & funding, policies & regulations, and a reference collection with statistics, dictionaries, and fact sheets.
  • Dept. of Homeland Security
    The web site of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) includes offers information and news on the following topics: DHS organization & agencies, emergencies & disasters, travel & transportation, immigration & borders, research & technology, threat & protection (including the current threat advisory and instructions) and working with the DHS.
  • Dept. of Housing & Urban Development
    From the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) web site, users can find local information about homes and communities, search for home for sale, locate information about HUD homes and services, or learn how to buy a HUD home or apply for public housing.
  • Dept. of the Interior
    The U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) web site provides information and news about the following topics: DOI collaborative efforts, American Indians, fish & wildlife, national parks, public lands, energy, science, and water. Also available from this site are links to the bureaus & offices of the DOI, contact information, and special sections dedicated to kids and teachers.
  • Dept. of Justice
    Access the web site of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to find information for individuals and communities about violence, crime, civil liberties and faith-based initiatives, as well as general information about the DOJ. The Justice for Kids & Youth web pages teach children about civil rights, crime, and justice.
  • Dept. of Labor
    The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) web site can be browsed by topic or audience, or searched by keyword or phrase. The information presented includes among others, facts about the DOL and its agencies, labor statistics, services organized by location, and links to labor related resources.
  • Dept. of State
    The U.S. Department of State web site offers nine main sections: About the State Department; Press & Public Affairs; Travel & Living Abroad; Countries & Regions; International Topics & Issues; History, Education & Culture; the Business Center; Other Services, and Employment. Each of these sections has news and resources that can be searched or browsed by topic.
  • Dept. of Transportation
    The web site of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) provides searchable information for citizens about the DOT agencies, transportation safety, and transportation regulations, together with related business news, and government highlights.
  • Dept. of the Treasury
    The U.S. Department of the Treasury web site offers new, resources, and links about the department, budgets, taxes, currency, law enforcement, economic policy development, and treaty negations, among other subjects. This information is organized under the following headings: news, key topics, pressroom, organization, offices, bureaus, and education.
  • Dept. of Veterans Affairs
    Access the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to find online applications for and information about health benefits and services, compensation and pensions benefits, home loans, education benefits, the Board of Veterans’ Appeals, life insurance programs, vocational rehab and employment services, and burial and memorial benefits.

  • U.S. House of Representatives
    Access the U.S. House of Representatives web site to search for a representative by name, state, or zip code, to search for a committee or leadership office web site, or to find the congressional schedule and legislative information.
  • U.S. Senate
    Use the U.S. Senate web site to search for senators by state, name, class, and party, to view committee information and member lists, or to search for bills by number or keyword. Historical, visitor, and reference information is also available.
  • General Accounting Office
    The General Accounting Office (GAO) is the audit, evaluation, and investigative arm of congress. From this web site find reports, legal products, and other publications, as well as news, information about the GAO, and contact information for reporting allegations of fraud, waste, abuse, or mismanagement of federal funds.
  • THOMAS - U.S. Congress on the Internet
    Named in honor of Thomas Jefferson, the THOMAS web site offers information about legislation, congressional record, and the House and Senate committees. Access this site to search bill text, to view the House floor and Senate schedules, or to find links o a multitude of national and state government information.
  • Code of Federal Regulations
    The online Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) is a joint project of the National Archives and Records Administration and the Government Printing Office. Titles are available from 1997 to the present and are presented in ASCII text and PDF files.
  • Federal Register
    The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents. Users can take advantage of the simple search, advanced search and browse options to find publications, or they may choose to receive free daily table-of-contents e-mails or to purchase a subscription.
  • The Legislative Process by Indiana University
    This web site presents a detailed description of the legislative process of a bill becoming a law. Also available are links to descriptions of the enactment of a law and how laws are made.

  • The Federal Judiciary
    This site is devoted to information about the judicial branch of the U.S. Government. It contains sections devoted to the U.S. Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, the U.S. District Courts, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts. Also available are court links by circuit number and state, news, and employment information.
  • The Supreme Court
    Access the web site of the Supreme Court of the United States to find recent decisions, to search Supreme Court files and Docket files, to view oral argument transcripts, orders, and opinions, or to find information and links regarding the U.S. Supreme Court and the Judiciary.
  • Federal Courts
    At FedCourts.com search for Federal Court sites and resources by circuit name or state. Within each circuit, users can browse options by date or search for docket numbers and party names. Each state page includes a listing of resources for the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, Country and Municipal Courts, U.S. Circuit and District Courts, as well as additional resource links.
  • Federal Judicial Center
    The Federal Judicial Center (FJC) is the education and research agency for the federal courts. Through this web site users can access educational materials, court history, biographies of federal judges, and the results of FJC research into federal court operations and procedures.
  • U.S. Court of Appeals - 5th Circuit
    The web site of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit provides jury instructions, opinions, docket information, court calendars, and address and phone numbers for the Firth Circuit Clerk’s office.
  • United States Sentencing Commission
    Access the U.S. Sentencing Commission (USSC) web site to find news, Internet links, and various publications regarding the USSC, the commissioners, and federal sentencing guidelines.
  • Guide to Law Online
    Prepared by the U.S. Law Library of Congress Public Services Division, the Guide to Law Online offers an annotated collection of online sources of information on government and law. To find information, select from the main topics provided on the home page or browse the topics listed in the alphabetical index.

    Independent Agencies (USA)

  • Central Intelligence Agency
    Access the CIA web site to find information about the agency, CIA careers, the director, and offices with in the agency. Also available from this site are news articles, reference resources, and special sections devoted to children and the war on terrorism.
  • Environmental Protection Agency
    The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) web site not only provides information about the EPA, its mission and its activities, but also about the environment, laws and regulations, education resources, and regional resources. A section for children is also available.
  • Federal Election Commission
    The Federal Election Commission (FEC) web site offers information about the FEC and its services and offices, campaign finance reports and filing, campaign finance law resources, elections and voting, and news from the FEC.
  • Federal Communications Commission
    The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) web site provides information, news, and resources related to the FCC, its commissioners, its bureaus and offices, its advisory committees, and its strategic goals, as well as section with useful consumer facts.
  • Securities and Exchange Commission
    Use the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) web site to find information about the SEC and its divisions, filing and forms, regulatory actions, staff bulletins, investor information, news and public statements, and litigation, together with information for accountants, broker dealers, EDGAR filers, funds and advisors, municipalities, and small businesses.
  • Social Security Administration
    Visit the Social Security Online to find Social Security news, to locate forms and Social Security publications, to read the electronic newsletter, or to search for information about retirement, Medicare, disability, widows and widowers, name changes, and much more. Certain information is also organized for particular audiences, such as employers, women, or immigrants.

  • USA.govThe USA.gov web site is a one-stop reference tool for locating online information, services, and resources about the United States government. Use this site to find government contact information, agency web pages, and a variety of other government information for citizens, businesses, and non-profit organizations.
  • Fednet
    FedNet provides real-time and archival multi-media information from Capitol Hill. The live web-casts available from this site include: congressional hearings, floor debates, White House briefings, regulatory hearings, and press conferences. Some services require a subscription.
  • Federal Statistics
    Use FedStats to find official statistics and information from more than 100 statistical agencies made available to the public by the Federal Government. The MapStats tool also allows users to profile a state, country, Federal judicial district or congressional district.
  • GovSpot
    GovSpot, part of the StartSpot network, makes available links to selected government and civic resources. Topics covered include: the government online, news, library resources, social services, justice and military, money, science and travel, world affairs, and politics.

    Embassies/Consulates (USA)

  • Electronic Embassy
    Access Embassy.org to find foreign embassy web pages and/or contact information, and business directories for diplomats, Americans traveling abroad, foreign visitors, educators, and students. Also available are search options, additional resources, and trivia questions.
  • United States Embassies and Consulates Worldwide
    The U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs provides links to United States Embassies and Consulates around the world organized by region.
  • Directory of World Embassies and Consulates
    The Embassy World web site includes links to web pages or contact information for embassies and consulates worldwide. To find an embassy, search by host or guest country or select a page from the alphabetical directory. Also available are map searches and international phone number searches.

  • Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
