What is Geographic Information Systems? Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a computer based technology used to compile data, information and geographic features into maps and reports that local government official’s use in decision making, managing and planning for the City. This provides a systematic way to collect and analyze public land related data. GIS allows for decisions to be made efficiently, and to be backed with reliable information.
How is GIS being used? The City of Rowlett GIS Division maintains the city’s boundary, parcel, zoning, infrastructure, and other geographic information. This information is used as a reference to municipal records, assessments, and incidents throughout the city and provides a “one-stop” environment for geographic based information through web-based applications.
